{allcanada} WHL Roundup: Malm scores twice, adds assist as Hitmen topple Broncos

 

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — James Malm scored twice and added an assist to lift the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.

Cael Zimmerman, Layne Toder, Luke Coleman and Kaden Elder also scored for Calgary (25-19-4). Riley Stotts chipped in with a pair of assists.

Ethan O'Rourke and Ian Briscoe supplied the offence for the Broncos (10-35-3).

Hitmen goaltender Brayden Peters made 30 saves.

Riley Lamb started in Swift Current's net, allowing four goals on 18 shots through 20 minutes. Isaac Poulter turned aside 23-of-25 attempts the rest of the way.

WHEAT KINGS 4 REBELS 0

RED DEER, Alta. — Connor Ungar stopped all 34 shots he faced as Brandon blanked the Rebels.

Ty Thorpe, Braden Schneider, Luka Burzan and Caiden Daley, into an empty net while shorthanded, supplied the offence for the Wheat Kings (21-19-7).

Ethan Anders made 25 saves for Red Deer (28-16-3).

GIANTS 3 BLAZERS 2 (OT)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Bowen Byram knocked in the winning goal 33 seconds into overtime to lift Vancouver over the Blazers.

Lukas Svejkovsky and Davis Koch also scored for the Giants (32-12-3).

Zane Franklin and Orrin Centazzo scored for Kamloops (19-25-4). Blazers defenceman Jeff Faith was given a match penalty for kneeing at 1:52 of the second period.

THUNDERBIRDS 3 ROCKETS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Henrik Rybinski scored 2:38 into overtime as Seattle edged the Rockets.

Tyrel Bauer tied the game late in the second period and Matthew Wedman also scored for the Thunderbirds (19-22-6).

Mark Liwiski and Kyle Crosbie, with a short-handed goal, scored for Kelowna (20-24-5).

CHIEFS 7 WINTERHAWKS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. — Luc Smith scored twice and Riley Woods had a goal and four assists to power the Chiefs over Portland.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan scored a goal and set up two more for Spokane (25-17-5) and Ethan McIndoe, Jake McGrew and Jack Finley also scored.

Josh Paterson and Lans Gilliss replied for the Winterhawks (30-14-5).
