{allcanada} Leafs acquire goaltender Michael Hutchinson from Panthers for 5th-rounder

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.

The Leafs were in need of a goalie after announcing that starter Frederik Andersen would miss time with a groin injury.

Hutchinson is a veteran who has appeared in just four games with the Panthers this season, sporting a 4.18 goals-against average and .839 save percentage.

He earns $1.3 million this season after which he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

The 28-year-old had some decent, if unspectacular, seasons with the Winnipeg Jets organization, totalling a .910 save percentage in 102 games over five seasons with Winnipeg.

The Barrie, Ont., native also had a stellar .935 save percentage with AHL Manitoba last season.

Toronto has seen its goaltending depth wither this year, after losing Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard to the waiver wire ahead of the season.

The club had recalled AHL netminder Kasimir Kaskisuo earlier Saturday on an emergency basis to back up Garret Sparks.

The Leafs host the New York Islanders on Saturday.
