Mark Scheifele was asked to name the five NHL players who impress him the most and actually ended up listing six.
The Winnipeg Jets center put linemate Blake Wheeler among his best, with perhaps an unexpected player from a Central Division rival.
"I'd say probably put Victor Hedman or Roman Josi in the top five, one of them," Scheifele told TSN 1050 Toronto on Tuesday.
Josi, a defenseman for the Nashville Predators entering his eighth NHL season, has never been named to an NHL First or Second All-Star Team, nor has he been a finalist for any major NHL award.
In addition to Hedman, a defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Scheifele named Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby as Nos. 1 and 2, and said Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn would complete the list.
"No. 5, I'd probably put Jamie Benn," Scheifele said of another Central opponent. "He's a really good player, he does it all, he's tough to play against. He hits, he skates well, shoots the puck, he kind of does it all."
Scheifele shared similar praise of Wheeler, the Jets captain.
"I'd throw my linemate Blake Wheeler in the top five," Scheifele told "OverDrive." "He's probably one of the most underrated players. His passing is next level. By far, he's a pretty special player to play with."
Scheifele said he uses the top players to motivate himself.
"When you want to be the best for yourself, and the best for your team, you have to raise yourself up to the best players in this league," Scheifele said. "You have to learn stuff from the best players in the League, and you have to continue to strive for that. You have to challenge them, you have to see what they're doing, change your game. ...
"Whatever it is, you can learn things from all the best players in the game, and I definitely do watch a lot of those guys to try to improve my game on a day-to-day basis."
