{allcanada} Oilers hire Gulutzan, Yawney as assistant coaches

The Edmonton Oilers have added two pieces to their coaching staff.

Glen Gulutzan and Trent Yawney have been hired by the Oilers as assistant coaches and join head coach Todd McLellan behind the bench.

Gulutzan was most recently head coach of the Calgary Flames, a position he held from the start of the 2016 season until he was relieved of his duties on April 17. During his time with the Flames, Gulutzan led his team to a first-round playoff loss in 2016, but failed to make the playoffs the following year compiling a 37-35-10 record, good for fifth in the Pacific Division.

The 46-year-old also spent time as head coach of the Dallas Stars for two seasons from 2011-13, failing to make the playoffs in either. He also has three years experience as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Canucks in between the years he held head coaching duties.

Trent Yawney also has "head coach" on his professional resume, but not as recently as Gulutzan. Yawney held the position for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2005-06 season when he managed to only pick up 26 wins, and then 21 games the proceeding year before he was fired by the organization.

Most recently, during the past four seasons, Yawney has served as the assistant coach for the Anaheim Ducks. He also held the same position for the San Jose Sharks and the Blackhawks.
