{allcanada} All-Star defensive end Chick retires

Three-time CFL All-Star defensive end and 2009 Most Outstanding Defensive Player John Chick has retired, the Edmonton Eskimos announced Friday.

Chick spent the second half of last season with the Eskimos after the team acquired him from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

"It has been an absolute privilege to football at all levels and an amazing honour to have been part of the CFL and its history," Chick said in a release. " I have always given football my all as it should be given nothing less and regardless of what stage of life I'm in, I will continue to do so.

Chick spent most of his CFL career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he starred for six seasons (2007-09, 2013-15). The 35-year-old Chick spent three season south of the border in the NFL playing for the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Utah State product will end his CFL career with 240 tackles and 72 sacks in 125 career games.

"John will go down as one of the best players to have ever played in the CFL," Eskimos GM Brock Sunderland said in a release. "He gave 110% effort on every play, whether it was in a game or a practice and was a player that always had to be accounted for by opposing offences."
