BUFFALO, N.Y. — International Ice Hockey Federation president Rene Fasel says he needs the NHL to have players at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
Fasel spoke at a news conference in Buffalo, N.Y., ahead of the semifinals of the world junior hockey championship.
He believes that it will come down to the upcoming collective bargaining agreement negotiations between the NHL and its players' union.
NHL players' association executive director Don Fehr will also be in attendance at the semifinal between Canada and the Czech Republic.
The current NHL labour deal expires in 2022, but it can be renegotiated in 2020.
