KJ Apa considers the car crash that took place after a long day on the set of "Riverdale" his fault.
"That was just a one-off accident, and it was a mistake on my part," Apa told Esquire. "I should have pulled over and gone to sleep instead of battling my way home. But I learned from it. It was a blessing in disguise. I came out unscathed, and I thank God that I'm okay—it could have been a lot worse."
Fortunately, Apa didn't sustain any serious injuries, but the accident led to a SAG-AFTRA investigation of conditions on the set of "Riverdale." Since the accident, however, his long hours haven't changed and he still has to drive himself even though industry standard policy dictates studios must provide a taxi, hotel room or a driver if a member of the cast or crew feels tired or unsafe after work.
"The schedule didn't change," Apa shared. "It's still a requirement for the actors to drive to work, which is fair enough. The crew works longer than we do, and they have to drive back and forth to work every day."
Warner Bros. Television didn't immediately return Page Six's request for comment.
Apa also said his accident helped put "things in perspective for actors on other shows," making them make sure their "mind's right."
"I was really lucky the production was there for me and helped me the whole way, which made me feel looked after," he said.
