Brad Jacobs scored four in the second end and then stole four more in the sixth to beat Jennifer Jones 11-6 on Friday night in the first quarter-final of the Everest Curling Challenge in Fredericton.

The mixed-team event, which features eight curling skips who each drafted a rink of star players, continues on Saturday with three more quarter-final games.

Jones had the hammer to start the game on Friday and scored two in the first end. Jacobs answered right back with four, and Jones scored two more in the third to tie the match 4-4.

After moving out to a 7-4 lead, Jacobs put the game away when Jones' draw came up short on her last shot of the sixth end, handing him four more points and an 11-4 lead.

Jones scored two in the seventh and the teams shook hands with one end to play.

Jacobs played with a team comprised of Brett Gallant, Lori Olson-Johns, and Laine Peters. Jones played with Marc Kennedy, Joanne Courtney and Tim March.

On Saturday Val Sweeting plays John Epping, Kevin Koe faces Chelsea Carey, and Rachel Homan plays Brad Gushue.
