{allcanada} QUALIFYING: Labbe Edges Lacroix For Pole

Wetaskiwin, Alberta - Alex Labbe likes racing on ovals and it has shown this week during the annual western swing by the NASCAR Pinty's Series.

Labbe, who collected a win and third-place finish on Wednesday in Saksatoon, picked up where he left off by winning the E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award during qualifying for the Luxxur 300 at Edmonton International Raceway Saturday night.

The Victoriaville, Quebec native edged Kevin Lacroix by just .003 seconds to capture his first pole of the season and sixth of his career.

Labbe finished with a fast time of 12.742 seconds (70.633 mph) to top Lacroix who qualified at 12.745 seconds and won the pole for this event last year.

Lacroix leads Labbe by just two points (300-298) heading in to tonight's race around the tight .25-mile asphalt track located just south of Edmonton, Alberta.

Alex Tagliani, the defending race winner of this event, qualified third at 12.820 seconds with Donald Theetge and D.J. Kennington completing the top five.

Mark Dilley was sixth followed by Anthony Simone, Cayden Lapcevich, L.P. Dumoulin and Jamie Krzysik rouning out the top-10 starters.

Larry Jackson qualified the car normally driven by Andrew Ranger - who missed the qualifying session due to illness. It will be determined later if Ranger will attempt to compete in the race.

The Luxxur 300 is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. MT.
