{allcanada} Report: Jets to sign UFA goalie Steve Mason

The Winnipeg Jets are set to sign goaltender Steve Mason, according to a report from Jeff Hamilton of The Winnipeg Free Press.

Mason, who is scheduled to hit the open market on Saturday, has been linked to the Jets over the past week as it became increasingly clear that the Philadelphia Flyers would be letting him walk.

The 29-year-old has struggled to find consistency throughout parts of his nine NHL seasons split between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Flyers. He posted a 2.66 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 2016-17, which isn't far off from his career numbers (2.68 GAA, .911 SV%).

The Jets' goaltending woes were exposed this past season, and they have made no secret of their need for help in the crease as they search for a veteran netminder to share the starts with 24-year-old Connor Hellebuyck.
