{allcanada} Nathan Beaulieu acquired by Sabres from Canadiens

Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres from the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday for the Sabres third-round pick (No. 68) in the 2017 NHL Draft presented by adidas.

Beaulieu, 24, was Montreal's first-round selection (No. 17) in the 2011 draft and can become a restricted free agent on July 1.

He had 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) in 74 games this season, each an NHL career high. Beaulieu had one assist in five Stanley Cup Playoff games. However, with the Canadiens facing elimination, he was a healthy scratch for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the New York Rangers.

"Obviously, it's disappointing," Beaulieu told the Montreal Gazette on April 25. "A lot of positives coming out of this year, though. It's [lousy] the way it ended, but try to find some positives going into the summer is the best way to look at the situation."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman made his NHL debut on March 30, 2013, and has 60 points (seven goals, 53 assists) in 225 games, as well as four assists in 17 playoff games.
