PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby left 5:24 into Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena on Monday with an apparent upper-body injury.
Crosby was cutting across the goal mouth when his left knee buckled and Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen made contact with the right side of Crosby's head. He lay face down on the ice, then rolled onto his left side as a trainer attended to him. Crosby went off the ice hunched over and headed to the dressing room.
Niskanen received a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking and a game misconduct.
The Penguins lead the best-of-7 series, 2-0.
