The Montreal Canadiens confirmed the signing of free agent defenceman Jakub Jerabek on Monday.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the deal is a one-year entry level deal worth a total of $925,000 ($832,500 in NHL salary, a $92,500 signing bonus and a $70,000 American Hockey League salary).

Jerabek, who was never selected in the NHL draft, scored five goals and tallied 34 points and 56 penalty minutes in 59 games last season with Chekhov Vityaz of the Kontinental Hockey League. He had a goal and an assist in four playoff games.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported in February that Jerabek was getting considerable interest from NHL teams. He was free to head to the National Hockey League once his KHL season was over.

KHL reporter Aivis Kalnins reported a deal last week.

A native of Plzen, Czech Republic, the 25-year-old defenceman represented the Czech Republic at last year's world championship. Prior to joining Chekhov Vityaz, Jerabek played eight seasons for his hometown team in the Czech Extraliga.
