{allcanada} U.S. shuts out Canada at Women's World Championship

 

Nicole Hensley made 18 saves for the United States in a 2-0 win against Canada in the preliminary round of the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship at USA Hockey Arena 1 in Plymouth, Michigan on Friday.

Brianna Decker scored with 2:06 left in the second period with an assist from Megan Bozek. Gigi Marvin extended the lead on an unassisted goal with 15:11 left in the third period.

Canada goaltender Shannon Szabados made 28 saves.

The United States will play Russia on Saturday at 3:35 p.m. ET. Canada will play Finland at 7:35 p.m. ET.

The top two teams in Group A (United States, Canada, Russia and Finland) will advance to the semifinals. The other two teams in Group A and the top two teams in Group B (Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany) will advance to the quarterfinals.
