The Toronto Argonauts have released defensive end Ricky Foley, they announced Friday. Foley took issue with the move, criticizing the Argonauts' professionalism on how they released him. Foley claims he found out about the move over text.

According to a report from Justin Dunk of 3 Down Nation, Foley was rumoured to have been asked to re-structure his contract. He was due to receive a roster bonus on April 1.

Last season, Foley played in 14 games, recording 24 tackles and four sacks. The 34-year-old missed the final four games of last season due to a nerve issue in his foot. That ended his consecutive games played streak at 182, the longest streak in the league among active players. He was with the Argonauts for five seasons over two stints from 2010 to 2012, and then again for 2015 and 2016. In his 76 games with Toronto, Foley totaled 184 tackles and 20 sacks.

He was named Most Valuable Canadian for his role in the Argos' Grey Cup victory in 2012.

"The Argonauts would like to thank Ricky for his many contributions on the field and in the community throughout his career," the Argos said in a press release.
