Goalie Al Montoya signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Financial terms were not released.
Montoya, 31, is 4-4-2 with a 2.74 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 11 games (10 starts). He signed a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2016 and could have become an unrestricted free agent again at the end of the season.
Selected by the New York Rangers with the No. 6 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, Montoya is 59-44-20 with a 2.61 GAA and .909 save percentage in 147 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers and Canadiens.
