MAPLE LEAFS (2-3-3) at ISLANDERS (3-5-0)
6 p.m. ET; SN360, SN1, MSG+, NHL.TV
Maple Leafs team scope
Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Matt Martin makes his return to Brooklyn to play against the team that selected him in the fifth round (No. 148) of the 2008 NHL Draft. Martin had 42 goals, 88 points and 680 penalty minutes in 438 regular-season games in seven seasons with the New York Islanders before the Maple Leafs signed him to a four-year free agent contract on July 1. "Some guys might want their old teams to fail, I guess," Martin told Newsday. "I'm not that way. These guys are all my friends still. I want to see them succeed in the worst way. If the Leafs can't win the Stanley Cup, then I want the Islanders to win it. Heck, if we're out, I'd probably be in the stands at Barclays in a Casey Cizikas jersey. I made Long Island my home." Goaltender Jhonas Enroth will make his second start for Toronto. Enroth last played on Oct. 20 at the Minnesota Wild and made 24 saves in a 3-2 loss. The Maple Leafs did not hold a morning skate on Sunday.
Islanders team scope
Right wing Andrew Ladd, who was signed to a seven-year contract on July 1, has one assist and five shots on goal in six games. Ladd was skating on a line with center Brock Nelson and left wing Shane Prince at practice on Saturday; the Islanders did not hold a morning skate on Sunday. Jason Chimera, who signed to a two-year contract on July 1, has three assists and a minus-3 rating in eight games and center Casey Cizikas has three assists in eight games. "We're just not getting offense from our forwards right now," coach Jack Capuano told Newsday. "We've got to find a way to score goals if this team wants to win games. End of story." One bright spot has been the play of rookie Anthony Beauvillier, who was skating alongside center John Tavares and right wing Josh Bailey at practice on Saturday. The 19-year-old has one goal, five points, a plus-4 rating and seven shots in seven games. "[Beauvillier] plays with tenacity, grit, determination in his game and that's the way he has to play," Capuano said. "He shifted to wing and he's accepted the position. Wall battles are the biggest thing for a winger in this game and I think he's done real well."
