The Toronto Argonauts released four wide receivers on Monday, including Tori Gurley, Vidal Hazelton and Kevin Elliott, according to TSN's Matthew Scianitti.
The team also released wide receiver Phil Bates.
Gurley ranked third in receiving yards for the Argonauts this season with 509, while Hazelton and Elliott ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.
Bates had just three catches for 20 yards this season.
The release of the four players comes one day after the Argonauts lost 38-11 to the Montreal Alouettes, their seventh loss in eight games.
"It tears your gut out," Argonauts head coach Scott Milanovich said after the loss. "The problem is that it's been tearing our guts out for three weeks now. The hardest thing is to stand in there and say this still isn't over. As poorly as we've played there are four games left and if we win them all, we're in the playoffs.
"We need guys who want to be part of this."
Gurley, Hazelton and Elliott all joined the Argonauts ahead of the 2015 season. Gurley, 28, posted 58 receptions for 791 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games. Hazelton, also 28, posted 70 catches for 803 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season. Elliott, who will turn 28 in December, had 50 receptions for 642 yards and eight touchdowns. Bates signed with the team late in last year's campaign, recording six catches for 123 yards and a touchdown across two games.
The Argonauts (5-9) host the CFL-leading Calgary Stampeders next Monday.
