According to a report from Jon Rosen of lakingsinsider.com, Jeff Carter has sustained a lower-body injury that could keep him out of the upcoming World Cup of Hockey.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman initially reported on Friday that there was some question about Carter's health and availability.
According to Rosen, the injury was sustained while Carter was training and the Kings consider it "week-to-week."
Rosen notes that the feeling is the injury isn't major, but still bad enough that "in all likelihood" Carter will have to miss the tournament.
Carter is coming off a season in which he scored 24 goals and 62 points in 77 games. He was part of Canada's gold medal-winning entry at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, scoring three goals and five points in six games.
As Friedman noted, players will start reporting to World Cup camps on Sunday, so if Carter needs to be replaced, an announcement could come this weekend.
Some names that could be considered to replace Carter include Taylor Hall, Tyler Toffoli and Mark Stone.
