Mike Fisher will be named captain of the Nashville Predators, The Tennessean reported Wednesday.
The Predators have a press conference scheduled for Thursday when it is expected they will announce that Fisher will replace Shea Weber, who was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for P.K. Subban on June 29.
Fisher has played six seasons with Nashville. The 36-year-old forward has 91 goals and 104 assists (195 points) in 341 games with the Predators, including 13 goals and 10 assists (23 points) in 70 games last season.
Fisher, who started his career with the Ottawa Senators, played his 1,000th NHL game last season (1,016). He was traded to Nashville for two NHL Draft picks on Feb. 10, 2011.
Weber was Predators captain for six seasons. Fisher was an alternate for the past four.
