{allcanada} Jonathan Quick to start pre-tournament game against Canada on Friday

On Thursday, Team USA coach John Tortorella announced that Jonathan Quick would get the start in his team's first pre-tournament game against Canada Friday night.

But this is no guarantee that Quick will be the No. 1 for Team USA — he probably won't even play all 60 minutes of the game against Canada.

As Sportsnet's Luke Fox noted earlier this week, Team USA has three terrific goalies all vying for the top job and Tortorella insists each one will get a shot in the pre-tournament games. It's even expected that the goalies will split appearances so that everyone is given a fair opportunity.

After all, Tortorella himself said he'd like to decide who the No. 1 is before the tournament officially begins.

"I want to make a decision before our third exhibition game," he said. "There's certainly not enough time to make a true determination of who wins a job. We want to give all three a fair whack at showing us what they can do in fighting for that spot."

Since Quick is starting Friday, he will not get the start in the Americans' second pre-tournament game against Canada. Bishop will be Quick's backup on Friday, so Cory Schneider will surely get time in Saturday's game.

"When we make our decision, it's going to suck for the other guys. Plain and simple. It's not going to be fair to the other guys, but we have to eventually make a decision who's going to start," Tortorella said.

Carey Price will get the start for Canada on Friday.
