Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is listed day-to-day with a knee injury he aggravated in Wednesday night's 2-0 loss to the New York Yankees.
Martin will be reevaluated ahead of Friday's opener of a crucial three-game series with the American League East-leading Boston Red Sox. The Jays sit one game back in the division.
Jays' front office and manager John Gibbons downplayed the seriousness of the injury, telling TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips that the 33-year-old Toronto native "tweaked" his knee on a swing. Martin remained in the game.
The team says that Martin's knee has an issue on and off over the course of the season and it might continue to be one, but the team doesn't expect the four-time All-Star to miss any extended time.
In 116 games this season, Martin is batting .244 with 17 home runs and 64 runs batted in and an OPS of .756.
