{allcanada} Clarke MacArthur working way back from concussion

Ottawa Senators forward Clarke MacArthur is training to return after sustaining a concussion in practice Sunday.

"We have been encouraged by how my body has reacted in the days since the injury, and the team has been great giving me all the time I need to rest and recover," MacArthur wrote on his Instagram account Thursday. "I will continue to consult with doctors and my entire support group, but I felt it was important to let everyone know what my intentions are: to work towards returning to the ice soon."

Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said Sunday that MacArthur had sustained a concussion, his fourth in the past 19 months, when a hit from teammate Patrick Sieloff forced him to leave the ice.

MacArthur, who missed all but four games last season because of a concussion, announced his appreciation for the organization and defended the play when he was injured.

"I want to thank the team and the fans for all of the support after the unfortunate incident Sunday," he said. "To me, it was simply a hockey play that ended in a hit causing me to suffer a concussion, a play that could happen at any point."

MacArthur has 40 goals and 91 points in 145 games with the Senators. The 31-year-old has 133 goals and 304 points in 548 NHL games.
