"I know Sloane well, as I've known her since we were 12," she told Tennis Canada. "She's playing really well right now so I will just try to play good tennis. It will be a battle for sure. I just want to go out and do as well as I can here."

Bouchard is also in the women's doubles competition with Gabriela Dabrowski. The pair's first challengers will be Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Paula Kania of Poland.

On the men's side, Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil are the seventh-seeded doubles team and will open against Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus of New Zealand. This will be Nestor's sixth Olympic appearance. Pospisil is also playing in the singles bracket and will face Gael Monfils of France in his first match.
