OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Fredrik Claesson on a one-year, two-way contract.

The contract will carry an annual value of US$700,000 in the National Hockey League and of $100,000 in the American Hockey League.

The 23-year-old Claesson appeared in 55 games for the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators last season, scoring three goals and adding seven assists for 10 points while recording 50 penalty minutes.

The Stockholm native, made his NHL debut Dec. 30 against the New Jersey Devils. He registered two assists and two penalty minutes in 16 games with Ottawa.

The Senators selected Claesson in the fifth-round, 126th overall, of the 2011 NHL draft.

He has recorded 69 points (13 goals, 56 assists) and 182 penalty minutes over 276 games with Binghamton.
