A day after throwing a scoreless inning during a 19-inning marathon against the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ryan Goins was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a forearm strain.
The Jays recalled pitchers Aaron Loup and Drew Hutchison from the Buffalo Bisons to help out their tired bullpen while Bo Schultz was optioned to Triple-A.
Schultz threw 2.2 innings of relief in Friday's game, allowing no runs on just three hits.
After using up their bullpen arms, Toronto went with utility infielder Goins to pitch the 18th. With the bases loaded and one out, Goins got some luck with a tailor–made double-play to get out of the inning unscathed. Darwin Barney, another position player, pitched the next inning and allowed the game-winning home run.
Hutchison, 25, has started one game in 2016 for the Jays, his only appearance in the Majors this season. Loup, 28, has a 9.00 ERA over seven games this season with the Blue Jays.
