TORONTO — Left-handed pitcher Brett Cecil was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left triceps strain on Sunday by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Right-handed pitcher Dustin Antolin was called up from triple-A Buffalo to fill Cecil's spot on the Blue Jays roster.
Cecil has an 0-5 record so far this season with a 5.23 earned-run average over 10.1 innings of relief pitching. He has nine strikeouts in 2016.
He has a 40-40 career record over seven seasons in Toronto, with a total of 549 strikeouts, and a 4.23 ERA and 11 saves. Cecil was named an all-star in 2009.
Antolin is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA with Buffalo this season, adding three saves since moving into the closer's role.
Drafted by Toronto in the 11th round in 2008, the Mililani, Hawaii native holds a 28-27 record with a 4.38 ERA over nine seasons.
