SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. - Reid Carruthers waited to make his move into the finals at the inaugural Champions Cup curling event.
Carruthers toppled Mike McEwen 4-3 on Saturday night in the semifinals at the seventh and final event of the Grand Slam season.
McEwen led 3-1 after six ends, but Carruthers tied it with a deuce in the seventh and scored a single in the eighth to take the all-Winnipeg matchup.
Carruthers will face John Epping in the championship after the Toronto skip downed Brad Gushue of St. John's, N.L., 5-2 in the other men's semi. The two skips shook hands after seven ends.
On the women's side, it'll be Ottawa's Rachel Homan against Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones in the final.
Homan edged Winnipeg's Kerri Einarson 4-3 after scoring a single in the final end while Jones dispatched Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 for her spot in the championship.
Jones trailed her semifinal 4-3 through five ends, but had back-to-back deuces in the sixth and seventh to turn things around at the $200,000 bonspiel.
Both finals are Sunday.
