Season series: The Toronto Maple Leafs twice defeated the New Jersey Devils in shootouts by the same score of 3-2 at Air Canada Centre on Dec. 8 and Feb. 4. Center Tyler Bozak has a goal and two assists for the Maple Leafs, while Nazem Kadri and P.A. Parenteau scored the shootout winners in the first and second games, respectively. Defenseman David Schlemko has a goal and two assists for the Devils.
Maple Leafs team scope: Goalie Garret Sparks will start. Forward Kasperi Kapanen was re-assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The Maple Leafs did not practice on Friday after a 4-3 overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday. "It's important that we keep plugging away," coach Mike Babcock told the Maple Leafs website. "We'll give our kids an opportunity in New Jersey and we'll see what happens." The Devils are expected to honor former general manager Lou Lamoriello, now with Toronto, with a scoreboard video tribute.
Devils team scope: This could be forward Patrik Elias' final game with the Devils. The contract of Elias, who turns 40 on Wednesday, expires after the season. He has played his entire 20-year NHL career in New Jersey and is the Devils' franchise leader in goals (407), assists (615), points (1,022), power-play goals (113) and game-winning goals (80). He also is a two-time Stanley Cup champion. Forward Pavel Zacha, the No. 6 selection in the 2015 NHL Draft, was recalled from the Albany Devils of the AHL. Devils radio play-by-play man Matt Loughlin reported Zacha will participate in the morning skate, but is not expected to make his NHL debut. He was assigned to Albany earlier on Friday after his season with Sarnia of the Ontario Hockey League concluded earlier this week. Forwards Blake Pietila and Mike Sislo and defenseman Vojtek Mozik were re-assigned to Albany. The Devils, who have lost four straight, did not practice on Friday. Goaltender Cory Schneider will start.
