Season series: The San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets each have won on the road. Blake Wheeler had two assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves in a 4-1 Winnipeg win on Jan. 2. Chris Tierney had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 San Jose win Jan. 12.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg has won two games in a row after a 2-1 overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday that began a three-game road trip. "It's true of the last week or so," coach Paul Maurice told the Jets website. "We're moving better now. I think we've kind of gotten into the grind of our schedule and got through maybe the heavy part of it." Maurice confirmed goaltender Ondrej Pavelec will start. Wheeler has a career-high nine-game point streak (five goals, six assists). Mark Scheifele has an eight-game point streak (four goals, seven assists), tying a career-high.
Sharks team scope: San Jose is third in the Pacific Division, three points behind the second-place Los Angeles Kings with two games remaining. Joe Pavelski has four goals and six assists in his past 10 games, Joe Thornton has a five-game point streak (one goal, six assists) and Brent Burns has a goal and eight assists in his past seven games. A starting goaltender has not been confirmed; James Reimer has started the past two games. With wins in the final two games, each of them at SAP Center, San Jose would reach 100 points for the seventh time in franchise history and the second time in the past three seasons.
