CANADIENS (36-38-6) at HURRICANES (35-29-16)

TV: 7 p.m. ET; RDS, SNE, FS-CR, NHL.TV

Season series: The Carolina Hurricanes are 1-0-1 against the Montreal Canadiens, including a 3-2 win at PNC Arena on Dec. 5. Carolina goalie Cam Ward has a 1.44 goals-against-average and a .958 save percentage (69 saves on 72 shots). Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner has three goals, and forwards Jordan Staal and Andrej Nestrasil have two assists each.

Canadiens team scope: Rookie Charlie Lindgren will become the fifth goalie to start for Montreal this season. He will be the 45th Canadiens player this season, and the 11th to make his NHL debut. "Both Carey [Price] and Mike [Condon], I can't say enough how great they've been to me and how much I've learned from them," Lindgren said. "So just being here a week and a half, I've learned so much and I've become a better goaltender." Price and defenseman P.K. Subban are among five players who will not play either of the Canadiens' final two games. Price has been sidelined since Nov. 25 with what was revealed to be a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee Wednesday. "Since the start of this injury I said I wouldn't come back until I was 100 percent and comfortable in being in there and having absolutely no doubts in my mind, so we just ran out of time at the end of the season," Price said. "I was really close but at this point of the year, with nothing on the line, it made more sense to end it right now."

Hurricanes team scope: The Hurricanes did not practice Wednesday. Forward Sergey Tolchinsky was assigned to Charlotte of the American Hockey League. Center Victor Rask has scored five goals in his past seven games entering Carolina's final home game of the season. "I haven't changed anything," Rask told the News & Observer. "I just do the things I always do. Put pucks to the net and good things will happen." Rask has increased his offensive output in his second NHL season from 11 goals and 22 assists as a rookie to 21 goals and 26 assists. "Obviously I wanted to do better than I did last year, points wise," Rask said. "I didn't set a goal or anything but I think I've done pretty good. It's been a fun year for me." Elias Lindholm, who was selected by Carolina in the first round (No. 5) of the 2013 NHL Draft, is seeing more time at center after spending most of his first three seasons on the wing.
