SENATORS (34-32-8) at ISLANDERS (38-24-9)

TV: 7 p.m. ET; SN, TVA Sports, MSG+, NHL.TV

Season series: The New York Islanders are 1-0-1 in two games against the Ottawa Senators this season. Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson had two assists and an overtime goal in a 3-2 win on Dec. 5 at Canadian Tire Centre. Islanders forwards John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, and defenseman Travis Hamonic each had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 road win on Jan. 22.

Senators team scope: Defenseman Dion Phaneuf, who sustained a lower-body injury in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, didn't make the trip to Brooklyn. Coach Dave Cameron said he is unsure how long Phaneuf will be out; Ottawa will recall Fredrik Claesson from Binghamton of the American Hockey League. The Senators were down 3-0 after the first period against Washington before coming back. "We battled back and we got one [goal] late but that's not how you win games in this League," Karlsson told TSN. ... "They showed they were the better team than us today." The Senators are 0-for-27 on the power play in their past 10 games. "We are getting some looks and we are doing some good things but it is not enough when you are not winning games," forward Mika Zibanejad said. "We just have to get better."

Islanders team scope: New York did not practice Tuesday following a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. The Islanders are 0-3-1 in their past four games; they lead the Flyers and Detroit Red Wings by two points for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. "We know this isn't our best, but I believe in our group and we have to refocus for Wednesday," Tavares said after the game. "There can't be any panic. Obviously we need some urgency and we need to get some points. It's crucial into the final stretch." Coach Jack Capuano hinted that there may be lineup changes. "It's something that we can discuss as a staff," he said Monday. "You're hoping that eventually some of these guys can get out of the funk that they are in, but there's limited time to do that obviously with the race as tight as it is. It's something that we have to re-evaluate; see what we have here and see what we have in Bridgeport [their American Hockey League affiliate]." The Islanders play seven of their final 11 games at Barclays Center, where they are 21-9-4.
