Season series: The San Jose Sharks have won two of three games against the Edmonton Oilers, including the only one decided in regulation. That came March 8, when James Reimer made 31 saves in a 3-0 victory at Rexall Place. Logan Couture scored the first two goals for San Jose.
Oilers team scope: Center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins left a 4-2 loss at the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday in the second period with an upper-body injury and is listed as day-to-day. "Hopefully he's good and he's able to come back and we continue experimenting a little bit and seeing what we have," coach Todd McLellan said. Edmonton hopes to have forward Patrick Maroon back in the lineup after he sat out Tuesday because of illness. Rookie center Connor McDavid has seven assists during a five-game point streak and has 42 points in 39 games. The Oilers have scored more than two goals once in their past nine games.
Sharks team scope: San Jose will try for a second time to clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs; the Sharks missed their first chance Tuesday when they lost 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues and the Coyotes defeated the Oilers. San Jose is 2-1-0 on a six-game homestand. Martin Jones, who made 23 saves in the loss to the Blues, could start again; he's played in five of San Jose's past eight games, though Reimer is 3-0-0 with two shutouts in the other three. The Sharks are five points behind the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Kings and one behind the second-place Anaheim Ducks. The loss to St. Louis was especially costly because the Kings and Ducks lost before the Sharks played. "It's disappointing," captain Joe Pavelski said afterward. "It's a missed opportunity. There aren't a lot of games left to make up points. You have to make a chance like that count."
