Winnipeg Jets rookie forward Nikolaj Ehlers will be sidelined "indefinitely" with eye injury, head coach Paul Maurice confirmed on Friday.

Ehlers was injured in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders when the puck deflected off a stick and hit him in the face.

Islanders forward Kyle Okposo got the rebound and shot the game-winner past Michael Hutchinson.

Jets defenceman Anthony Peluso also left the game in the first period after crashing into the net and didn't return because of an upper-body injury.

Winnipeg host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday in their third game of a five-game homestand.
