Season series: The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 at Bell Centre on Nov. 1. David Desharnais had a goal and two assists, and former Canadiens forward Tomas Fleischmann scored twice and had an assist. Mike Condon made 18 saves. Forward Chris Thorburn scored for the Jets.
Canadiens team scope: Montreal will try to end a three-game losing streak (0-2-1) when they conclude a four-game road trip. They were defeated by the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2 on Thursday. "We played a pretty great team today and we showed up and competed and made play," forward Alex Galchenyuck told the Canadiens website after the game. "I think the penalties killed the momentum a little bit. ... We have a game tomorrow and we have to bounce back." Ben Scrivens started Thursday after Condon had started six games in a row. Defensemen Andrei Markov (three assists) and P.K. Subban (one goal, two assists) and forward Lars Eller (one goal, one assist) each have two-game point streaks.
Jets team scope: Rookie forward Nikolaj Ehlers is out indefinitely with an eye injury sustained in a 4-3 overtime loss against the New York Islanders on Thursday, according to the Jets website. Forward Anthony Peluso sustained an upper-body injury Thursday and is out. Coach Paul Maurice said defenseman Jacob Trouba is probable. Maurice expects to have further updates on each of the three players Saturday. Forward J.C. Lipon and defenseman Josh Morrissey were recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Lipon and Matt Halischuk are expected to replace Ehlers and Peluso in the lineup. The Jets have lost three games in a row and seven of eight. "We have a great group here in this room and we're working for it," forward Drew Stafford said. "It just hasn't gone our way." Maurice did not confirm who would start in net. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien has a seven-game point streak (one goal, six assists), tying his career-high.
