Season series: The Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders split two games last season, each winning at home. Matt Hendricks scored twice in Edmonton's 5-2 victory at Rexall Place on Jan. 4, 2015; Casey Cizikas broke a tie with 4:37 left to give New York a 3-2 win at Nassau Coliseum on Feb. 10, 2015.
Oilers team scope: Edmonton will look to bounce back from a 5-1 loss at the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Former Islanders goalie Anders Nilsson likely will start after stopping 12 of 13 shots in relief of Cam Talbot on Saturday. "We'll get some rest, we'll get on the plane. We've got to look at some of the things we obviously want to fix," coach Todd McLellan said. "We're going to play a different opponent. This is another learning opportunity for us. We played two real good games, got maybe a little comfortable, and didn't put in the work to be successful. Maybe we learn and get into New York and try and repair a few things."
Islanders team scope: New York returns home after losing back to back games on the road, including 5-1 at the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Goalie Thomas Greiss is likely to start for the first time since Jan. 12. Jaroslav Halak was pulled Saturday after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Jean-Francois Berube was Halak's backup in Detroit. "Just play the same way we played the last nine periods," coach Jack Capuano told MSG Network. "I can't fault the guys for their effort [Saturday]. You run into a goalie like [Petr Mrazek], that's what happens. You give up 20, 21 shots, I don't know how many scoring chances we gave up. But [the Oilers] are a quick, fast team. They're a young team, so they're going to have their legs on [a] back-to-back. We're going to have to be ready to skate."
