Season series: The Winnipeg Jets went 2-0-0 against the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014-15, winning 3-1 at MTS Centre and at PNC Arena. Forward Blake Wheeler had two goals for Winnipeg. Goaltenders Ondrej Pavelec and Michael Hutchinson each had a win.
Hurricanes team scope: Carolina plays the middle game of a three-game Canadian road trip that began with a 4-1 loss at the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. "We didn't have the game we wanted and we have to be better next game, everybody," captain Eric Staal said of the Hurricanes' play in Calgary. Coach Bill Peters has not confirmed a starting goaltender. Eddie Lack has started each of the past six games, allowing four or more goals in three of those starts; however, he also has two shutouts in that span. Cam Ward, who missed time with a concussion before the All-Star break, has not played since Jan. 15 but dressed as Lack's backup in Calgary. Defenseman Brett Pesce (lower body) remains out. Forwards Elias Lindholm (two goals, one assist) and Jeff Skinner (one goal, three assists) each has a three-game point streak. The road trip ends Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg finishes a six-game homestand (1-4-0) and a stretch of nine of 10 games at MTS Centre. The Jets are 3-6-0 in their past nine games. Rookie goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start for the 21st time in the past 23 games, but coach Paul Maurice has not confirmed it. Pavelec, who has not played since Nov. 21 because of a knee injury, practiced Thursday. "He's starting to feel better and stronger on the ice," Maurice said, according to the Jets website. "He has a ways to go before I think he's ready for a 60-minute hockey." Forward Nikolaj Ehlers has a five-game point streak (four goals, three assists). The Jets start a two-game road trip Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.
