SABRES (19-26-4) at SENATORS (23-20-6)
TV: MSG-B, BELL TV, RDS2, TSN5
Season series: The Ottawa Senators defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 on Oct. 8. Center Kyle Turris had two goals; forwards Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman assisted on each. Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson made 26 saves. Buffalo center Jack Eichel, the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, scored his first NHL goal in his debut.
Sabres team scope: Buffalo will try to end a three-game losing streak in its final game before the All-Star break. The Sabres, who have four losing streaks of three games or longer, lost 6-3 to the New York Rangers on Monday. They trailed 3-1 in the third period before scoring twice to tie it, but then allowed the final three goals. "We put ourselves in situations to win games, but it seems like we're finding ways to lose," Eichel, who had two assists, told the Sabres website. "Obviously, I think there is some frustration in the room. We want to get over that hump to that next tier of competitive teams and be able to come out with points in these games." Buffalo has scored six goals in its past four games. Center Zemgus Girgensons, who returned Monday after missing four games with an upper-body injury, scored two goals. "It's not fun when you lose, but to get two goals [after returning from injury] was not bad for me." Goalie Robin Lehner, who is 0-3-0, likely will start against his former team.
Senators team scope: Defenseman Marc Methot, who has missed four games with an undisclosed injury, returned to practice Monday and likely will be a game-time decision. "At this point, we are just kind of taking it day-by-day," Methot told the Senators website after practice. "For me to even speculate right now would be silly. I am going to come in tomorrow morning, and we will make the decision then." The Senators, who defeated the Rangers 3-0 on Sunday, are looking to win consecutive games for the third time in two months. They are in sixth place in the Atlantic Division. "It's a big game for us," Stone said. "We are still sitting a little bit behind [for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot]. We need a win going into the [All-Star] break to feel a little bit better about ourselves." Forward Bobby Ryan has four goals in the past five games.
