{allcanada} Jarome Iginla scores 600th NHL goal

Colorado Avalanche forward Jarome Iginla became the 19th player in NHL history to score 600 goals at 13:02 of the third period Monday against the Los Angeles Kings at Pepsi Center.

Iginla scored No. 600 when his attempted pass to Matt Duchene from the left circle went off the skate of Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin and past goalie Jhonas Enroth. The entire Avalanche team left the bench to join Iginla on the ice to celebrate the milestone.

Colorado won the game, 4-1.

"I just put it toward the net, and obviously I got a very fortunate bounce," Iginla told NBCSN. "It felt good. It feels really cool."

Iginla scored his 599th goal against the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 27 and had been scoreless in three games since then.

"It's something I've been thinking about a little bit," he said of the quest for his 600th goal. "You try not to; you try to focus. But every scoring chance you get, you think, 'Maybe this one, maybe this one.'

"It's nice to get it."

Iginla has 11 goals in 40 games this season, his second with the Avalanche.

Selected by the Dallas Stars with the 11th pick in the 1995 NHL Draft, Iginla was traded to the Calgary Flames in December 1995 and is in his 19th NHL season.

He scored in his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 1996, and played 15-plus seasons with the Flames, scoring 525 goals and 1,095 points in 1,219 games from 1996-2013.

Iginla was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the NHL Trade Deadline in 2013 and scored five goals in 13 games. He signed with the Boston Bruins as a free agent after the season and scored 29 goals in 82 games in 2013-14.

Iginla had 29 goals in 82 games in his first season with the Avalanche.

The 38-year-old is a 16-time 20-goal scorer, a 12-time 30-goal scorer, and scored 50 or more goals twice.

He won the Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal-scorer twice (52 goals in 2001-02; 41 in 2003-04), and led the League in scoring (96 points) and won the Lester B. Pearson Award as the players' MVP in 2001-02.

He reached 600 goals in 1,432 games. Iginla ranks 37th in NHL points (1,247).

He is the Flames' all-time leader in goals, points and games played, ranks second in assists, and helped them advance to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004, when they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.

Jari Kurri is 18th on the goals list with 601. He scored his 600th goal for the Avalanche against the Kings on Dec. 23, 1997.
