After thousands of fans showed up to the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal to mourn René Angélil last week, Céline Dion is expressing her gratitude for her fans' support.

"My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days," she writes on her website.

"We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most difficult time… more than you'll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

 

The superstar – who first met her late husband when she was 12 – also thanked the Quebec Government for honoring Angélil "with National Funerals as well as the many individuals and organizations who came together to hold such a beautiful tribute in his name."

"We will never forget all of the kindness that you have bestowed upon us," the statement – signed by "Céline, René-Charles, Nelson & Eddy, Patrick, Jean-Pierre & Anne-Marie" – continues.

Dion said her final goodbye to the music manager – who helped forge her path to superstardom and died Jan. 14 after a long battle with cancer – Jan. 22 at his funeral.
