OTTAWA -- Cory Schneider made 36 saves, and Mike Cammalleri scored twice to help the New Jersey Devils defeat the Ottawa Senators 3-0 at Canadian Tire Center on Wednesday.
The Devils (19-14-5), who won two games in a row for the first time since Nov. 12-14, moved into the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. They have 43 points, one more than the Senators (18-14-6).
It was Schneider's third shutout of the season and his 20th in the NHL. Lee Stempniak scored a shorthanded goal into an empty net with 15.6 seconds left.
Andrew Hammond made 18 saves for the Senators, who lost their second game in a row and for the seventh time in their past 10 games (3-6-1).
Cammalleri scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season in the first period. His first came at 9:11 with the Devils on a power play and coming off a faceoff in their own zone.
The puck went back to Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson at the right point, but he mishandled the puck and Cammalleri broke away on a 2-on-1 with Travis Zajac. Skating down the left wing, Cammalleri held the puck and then scored on a shot to Hammond's short side.
Cammalleri put the Devils up 2-0 at 18:08 when he received a rolling puck from Zajac at the top of the left-wing circle and his shot went in over Hammond's right shoulder.
The Senators outshot the Devils 36-21, the fourth time in their past 15 games they have outshot an opponent.
The Devils did a good job of keeping the Senators away from Schneider for second-chance opportunities, and Ottawa was 0-for-4 on the power play.
The Devils put forward Jacob Josefson on injured reserve and called up Mike Sislo from Albany of the American Hockey League. Sislo played his first game of the season.
Senators defenseman Fredrik Claesson made his NHL debut. He was called up from Binghamton with defenseman Michael Kostka. Claesson played 12:20 in place of Jared Cowen, who was a healthy scratch.
