Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins went 2-0-0 against the Winnipeg Jets in 2014-15. Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang had five assists in the two victories. Former Winnipeg forward Evander Kane had a goal and four assists.

Penguins team scope: Defenseman Kris Letang left and then returned after an apparent head injury in the third period of a 3-1 win at the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. "As far as I know, he's fine," coach Mike Sullivan said. Sullivan did not name a starting goaltender; rookie Matt Murray has started three consecutive games. If Murray does not play, Jeff Zatkoff would start. Pittsburgh is 4-6-1 in December and has won three times in its past nine road games (3-5-1); the Penguins' two-game winning streak is the first since Nov. 17-19. Pittsburgh is 1-4-1 in the second half of back-to-back games. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury (concussion) and forward Beau Bennett (upper body) remain out. After playing Winnipeg, three of their following four games will be at home, starting against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Jets team scope: Center Mark Scheifele collided with captain Andrew Ladd in practice Saturday, and coach Paul Maurice said Scheifele needed stitches, according to the Jets' website. "We'll give it some time and see how he is [Sunday]," Maurice said. It has not been confirmed whether Connor Hellebuyck or Michael Hutchinson will start in goal. Hellebuyck has started six of the past seven games, but Hutchinson played in the final game before the holiday break, a 4-1 loss at the Calgary Flames on Dec. 22. Winnipeg has lost two games in a row and five of its past seven games, dropping the Jets to last place in the Central Division.
