{allcanada} Nilsson makes 38 saves, Oilers defeat Bruins in SO

EDMONTON -- Jordan Eberle scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 win against the Boston Bruins at Rexall Place on Wednesday.

Oilers forwards Matt Hendricks and Mark Letestu each had a goal and assist to help end the Bruins' winning streak at five games.

Edmonton (9-15-2) has won two of its past three games.

Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara scored for Boston (13-8-2).

Oilers goaltender Anders Nilsson made 38 saves through overtime, and then stopped all three Bruins in the shootout for his sixth win. Boston's Tuukka Rask made 34 saves.

Each team had a good chance in a scoreless first period.

Bruins forward Matt Beleskey was set up in front by David Krejci, but Nilsson was able to glove the shot heading toward the top corner.

Oilers center Leon Draisaitl had an excellent opportunity on the power play, set up in the slot, but his shot was kicked away by Rask.

Edmonton outshot Boston 10-8 in the first period.

In the second period, Eberle nearly broke the scoreless tie but was turned away by Rask. Oilers left wing Taylor Hall drove the puck to the net, where Rask made a save, and it sat in the crease for Eberle. Despite being down on the play, Rask was able to get a glove on the shot to deflect it wide.

Letestu scored 10:23 into the second on a shorthanded, 2-on-1 rush with Hendricks.

Letestu slid the puck over to Hendricks, who returned it past Krug, allowing the Oilers forward to tap it past Rask for his third goal. It was the Oilers' first shorthanded goal of the season.

Krug tied it with 1:23 left in the second on a shot from the point that hit Oilers defenseman Andrej Sekera in front and changed direction, fooling Nilsson.

Hendricks gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead 9:22 into the third period, redirecting a centering pass from Letestu past Rask.

Chara tied the game with 3:21 left in regulation, taking a pass from Krejci in front and beating Nilsson.

Each team had its chances in overtime. The Oilers were awarded a power play with 1:06 left when Beleskey took Nugent-Hopkins into the net and was assessed an interference penalty.

The Bruins continue their three-game Western Canada road trip Friday at the Calgary Flames and conclude it Sunday at the Vancouver Canucks.

Edmonton plays the second of a five-game homestand Friday against the Dallas Stars.
