Season series: Evgeny Kuznetsov scored and had two assists to help the Washington Capitals defeat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 at Verizon Center on Nov. 25. Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov had a goal and an assist, defenseman John Carlson had two assists, and goaltender Braden Holtby made 23 saves.

Capitals team scope: Forward Marcus Johansson left practice early Friday. "[Johansson] had a little tweak [Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens], and he said it was starting to get aggravated," coach Barry Trotz told the Capitals website. "I think there is a probability that he will play [Saturday]." Trotz said Holtby will make his seventh start in a row; he and the Capitals have won six straight. With 37 points in 24 games, Washington is off to the best start in its history. It has outscored opponents 24-12 and gone 7-for-19 on the power play during the winning streak.

Jets team scope: Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is a possibility to start with Winnipeg playing back-to-back this weekend. The 22-year-old has won his first two NHL games since being recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Nov. 22 after goaltender Ondrej Pavelec sustained a knee injury. "[The Capitals] don't give up much, especially in the neutral zone," captain Andrew Ladd told the Jets website. "They're a really tight team. You've got to be smart and manage the puck properly." The Jets power play has scored in three of the past four games (3-for-10) after scoring twice in the previous 11 (2-for-38). Winnipeg visits the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
