Season series: The Montreal Canadiens swept three games from the Carolina Hurricanes last season, outscoring them 11-2. Max Pacioretty led Montreal with two goals and four assists, Alex Galchenyuk had three goals, and goaltender Carey Price had three wins. Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner each had one goal for Carolina.
Canadiens team scope: Goaltender Mike Condon allowed three goals on 19 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday, but in four starts since Price was reinjured, Condon is 2-1-1 and has allowed nine goals on 100 shots. Galchenyuk has four goals and two assists in his past five games. Forward Torrey Mitchell, who has been out since sustaining a lower-body injury Nov. 19, skated before practice Friday.
Hurricanes team scope: Carolina did not practice Friday after a 5-1 loss to the New Jersey on Thursday. The Hurricanes recalled defenseman Jaccob Slavin and forwards Brock McGinn and Phil DiGiuseppe from Charlotte of the American Hockey League and assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to Charlotte on Friday. The loss was Carolina's third straight. "It's just a lot mentally you go through every day, and it's been tough sledding right now and we've got to find a way to pick ourselves up because we're obviously down," Staal told the News & Observer on Thursday.
