Justin Smoak is staying in Toronto and avoiding arbitration.

Claimed off of waivers from the Seattle Mariners in October of 2014, Smoak, 28, appeared in 132 games for the AL East champions this past season. He hit .226 with 18 home runs and a career-high 59 runs batted in in 328 plate appearances.

The native of Goose Creek, South Carolina is heading into his seventh Major League season. He was the 11th-overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Texas Rangers out of South Carolina. He was dealt to the Mariners in 2010 as part of a trade for Cliff Lee.

Midnight on Wednesday is the deadline to tender contracts to on the 40-man roster. If not tendered, the players become free agents.
