Season series: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins split four games last season, with each team winning once in regulation and once in a shootout. James van Riemsdyk led Toronto with three goals and five points. Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton each had a goal and four points for Boston.
Maple Leafs team scope: James Reimer will be in goal again for Toronto after making 33 saves in a 2-1 shootout victory at the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. Reimer gave up a goal from behind the goal line to Carolina's Brad Malone midway through the third period, but he has won his past five starts, a big reason the Maple Leafs are 6-2-2 in their past 10 games. "It's a decision I had in my mind before tonight, and then I watched the game and I thought [Reimer] was fresh," coach Mike Babcock told the Maple Leafs website when asked about using Reimer on back-to-back nights. "I'm not concerned about him at all."
Bruins team scope: Boston is 2-2-0 entering the finale of a five-game homestand and will try for its first back-to-back wins this month after defeating the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Thursday. It was the Bruins' third win in 10 games at TD Garden this season (3-6-1). Boston enters the game one point ahead of Toronto in the Atlantic Division. "If they're going to work their way up, these are games you have to win," coach Claude Julien told the Bruins website after practice Friday. "If we're going to work our way up into [Stanley Cup Playoff] position, these are the games we have to win. How important are those games to both teams? I think it's pretty obvious that it's extremely important." Jonas Gustavsson made 24 saves against the Wild and could start again instead of Tuukka Rask, who allowed five goals in a loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Forward Frank Vatrano is day-to-day with an upper-body injury sustained Thursday.
