FLYERS (4-6-2) at FLAMES (3-9-1)

TV: SN360, CSN-PH

Season series: The Calgary Flames defeated the Philadelphia Flyers twice in a span of 16 days last season. On March 3, forward Jiri Hudler scored at 1:23 of overtime for a 3-2 win in Philadelphia. On March 19, forward Johnny Gaudreau, who grew up 40 minutes south of Philadelphia, had one goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory in Calgary.

Flyers team scope: Philadelphia, which has lost five straight (0-4-1), stayed off the ice Wednesday. The Flyers recalled defenseman Davis Drewiske from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League and sent down forward Chris Conner. Drewiske, 30, last played in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens during the 2012-13 season. In nine AHL games this season, he had one assist, two penalty minutes and seven shots on goal. Drewiske's arrival gives the Flyers seven defensemen; Evgeny Medvedev returned to Philadelphia on Monday for treatment of an upper-body injury. Conner was recalled Monday but was scratched from a 4-2 loss Tuesday to the Edmonton Oilers. CSNPhilly.com reported Wednesday that Flyers general manager Ron Hextall felt it more important to have an extra defenseman rather than an extra forward during the road trip that continues Saturday at the Winnipeg Jets.

Flames team scope: Calgary is 1-4-1 in its past six games in part because it has allowed at least four non-shootout goals in each. The Flames have allowed 4.23 goals per game, most in the NHL. That's created an angry group, especially the defensemen. "A little bit of anger sometimes is a good thing, and getting mad at the situation we're in," captain Mark Giordano told the Flames website Wednesday. "For sure we have to dig ourselves out of this. A lot of it is as individuals we've got to come in and feel good, and the way you do that I think is to simplify and make easy plays and get your confidence up and go from there. The bottom line is, we have to focus on giving up less goals or we're not going to have many wins this year." Goalie Karri Ramo is expected to start; it will be the first time this season any Flames goalie starts three straight games.
