Season series: Alex Ovechkin scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Washington Capitals a 3-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 7 at Verizon Center. The Capitals tied the game on Nicklas Backstrom's goal with 0.8 seconds left in the third period. Ovechkin had a power-play goal for the Capitals; Daniel Winnik and James van Riemsdyk scored for the Maple Leafs.

Capitals team scope: Philipp Grubauer has been the starting goaltender in the second half of every back-to-back Washington has played this season, so he could make his fifth start of the season after Braden Holtby made 30 saves Friday in a 4-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Forward Jason Chimera, who assisted on Ovechkin's power-play goal to open the scoring and added a power-play goal, said he expects a tough test from Toronto. "I think they've got a good goalie, [James] Reimer's playing really good and that helps us a lot. We know that with Holtby; he steals you some games when he's playing good, so it's a tough test in goal," Chimera told Monumental Network. "They're playing a little more structured hockey, they're playing a little more disciplined and not so wide-open."

Maple Leafs team scope: Reimer returned to practice Friday and is expected to start, coach Mike Babcock said. Reimer sustained a minor injury in practice Tuesday and didn't skate Wednesday. "I'm not the doctor. I'm not the therapist. I'm not the chiropractor. I'm not the media," Babcock told the Maple Leafs website. "I'm the coach, and when they tell me a guy's available, I put him in if he's ready to go." Reimer, who has made 11 consecutive starts and entered games Friday third in the NHL in save percentage (.934) and seventh in goals-against average (2.07), took a more cautious approach. "We'll see how she feels [Saturday] ... just got to make sure everything's all good to go," he said. Toronto hasn't played since Monday, a 4-3 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins.
