{allcanada} Canadiens goalie Price out with lower-body injury

MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will be sidelined for one week with a lower-body injury, coach Michel Therrien said Sunday.

Price sustained the injury during Montreal's 4-3 loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, according to Therrien.

"The thing is it's nothing major," Therrien said after the Canadiens' morning skate. "He had some treatment and said Friday morning that he had a certain amount of pain, so the medical staff didn't take any chances and kept him off the ice. He went to see the doctor [Saturday] when we returned and our medical team recommended that he take a week off."

Rookie goalie Mike Condon will start Sunday when Montreal begins a four-game homestand against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell Centre (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, RDS).

"[Condon has] been great for us," Canadiens right wing Dale Weise said. "When you don't have [Price] in the net, obviously he's our best player, that's obviously a little difference, but he's played well."

Price won the Hart, Vezina and Jennings Trophies and Ted Lindsay Award last season after going 44-16-6 with a 1.96 goals-against average, .933 save percentage and nine shutouts. He's 7-2-0 with a 2.01 GAA, .936 save percentage and two shutouts this season while helping Montreal (10-2-0) to a 9-0-0 start.

Canadiens right wing Brendan Gallagher was surprised by the news, but he was confident that Price will be able to return quickly.

"It shouldn't be too long," Gallagher said. "We should have him back; he's going to work hard and get back in our lineup very soon."

Condon is 3-0-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .944 save percentage. He made 30 saves in a 6-2 win against the Calgary Flames on Friday.

"We've got a lot of confidence in him," Weise said. "I think he's really enjoying the moment. This is a good opportunity for him to play some games in a row and I think he's obviously looking forward to it."

Goalie Dustin Tokarski was recalled from St. John's of the American Hockey League. Tokarski is 2-2-2 with a 3.45 GAA and .891 save percentage with St. John's.
